A Little Diddy....'Bout Ben and Emily

We are still here!!

We have been very busy and therefore the camera has not made

it out of the purse in a while!

These pictures were taken in March when we ran the Warrior Dash (5K)!

It was a lot of fun! Since then we have done a Mud Run (10K) and

are signed up for another one in October.... debating on signing

up for a half marathon too...but still debating! :)

Ben will be teaching elementary PE starting this fall! He will be responsible

for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade! I have a feeling he is going to love it!

He will be at a brand new school too... but it is right down the road

from his old school...so he's not too far away from familiar faces!

I (Emily) am starting my final year in grad school! And I am

anticipating graduating in May 2012!

I am also trying to work when I can, although school pretty much

consumes most of my life!

We are both looking forward to what this new school year will have in store

for both of us! We also look forward to the fall and winter temperatures as

it has been extremely warm down here! Hurry up winter!!

Houston Rodeo BBQ cookoff!

Every March the Rodeo comes to Houston for about 3 weeks!

The weekend before it starts, there is a huge cookoff!

The parking lot of Reliant Stadium is turned into a mini-city:

complete with street signs and addresses!

Each business has a tent- and each tent is invitation only!

All you can eat! All you can drink!

As long as you are wearing the right wrist band!

We were invited by a couple of teachers that Ben works with!

It was so much fun and the food was amazing!

So to all my friends near and far... the best time to visit Houston is in March!

The Rodeo is such a great time!

Just saying... if you need to get away from the cold and snow! This

is the perfect month to do it!!

Last weekend we spent the day biking!

We both had great rides and Ben even

packed a picnic to munch on after we rode!

Last weekend we were able to take a last minute ski trip to Colorado!

We had such a great time and cannot wait to go back!

I was so intense about staying up on my skiis, sometimes I forgot

to look around at the amazing creation!

We were flown there in one of my co-workers private planes!

This excited guy had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit during take off!

A Florida-kind-of Thanksgiving!

Ben & I decided to drive over to Florida for Thanksgiving this year!

It was a short fun trip! But well worth it!

Can't say I had gone to the beach on black Friday before,

but it was far better sitting on the beach with 80 degree weather

than trying to shop at 4 am!!

Last month my whole family was able to make it down to Texas

for a special 1 year-old little girl's birthday party!

This is the first time since Christmas of 2008 that my family had

all been together!

We all had a great time!

Astros vs. Cubs

Last weekend we were able to go to one of the last Astros games!

We went with another couple we met down here, Kim and Chris!

Through Chris's work, we sat in the second row along the 3rd baseline! You

could see into the dugout of the Cubs! It was pretty cool!

Apparently this guy is a big deal on the Cubs team, I tried to

get his autograph, but no luck!

When we moved into our house 2 1/2 years ago, there were these

fabulous built-ins in the study.

We said, someday we would paint it or stain it; but

put it off because we knew it would be a job!

Well, it was a lot of work.... but I think that it has paid off!

Last night we went to go see Jack Johnson!

Yes, it was a school night, but he was in town so we

had to take advantage!

It was a great show!

Ben's brother Josh and his wife Tamara braved the August

heat of Texas and came down for a visit!

It was so wonderful to have them here!

We took them to a lot of great places to eat, had some downtime watching

multiple episodes of The Office, and hung out in Galveston for a day!

We took them to see where we both worked.

This building is a parking garage in the medical center that

has a waterfall coming off of the sides, I think that it is

a pretty cool building!

Of course these are the only two pictures that I took!

I need to get better at that!

Michigan kind of Summer

We had a fabulous time in Michigan and Ohio this summer!

So much fun in fact that I didn't take a single picture!

We were able to spend some much needed time catching

up with friends and family!

We drove this summer and our dog Chai was such a good traveler!

I guess there was nothing else to do in the car but take pictures

so we took some of our pup!

Snuggled into the suitcase in the back seat!

She has her "Really?" face on here

At one point during the trip I tried to fill her water dish so she could drink,

well, I spilled a little water on her blanket and the next

time I turned around she had her butt sitting up on the suitcase

so to not get wet! What a weird dog!

It was all in all a safe and wonderful trip!

We are both looking forward to Christmas already!

More Biking!!

Last weekend we drove out to Warda, TX (about 1 hour east of Austin) to do

some more mountain biking! We left early in the morning and arrived there at 9:30am.

We biked 6.5 miles and took a rest and rehydrated ate some snacks

then went out for another 6.5 miles.

The second time around was so hot...I think like a gazillion degrees or so!

Back on the Bike!

So last year everyone (or 2 people) seemed to be flipping over their

mountain bike and cracking or dislocating their shoulder, and this made Emily

a little more fearful of getting back on the bike!

Well, it was time to "get back on the horse"!

The past two weekends we have gone biking... and it's been more fun

than I remember!

This past Sunday we packed up a picnic and after our 8 mile ride, we

had a great picnic lunch! Despite it being 96 degrees, we had a

"coolish" breeze which made it tolerable to be outside!

After our picnic... feeling good!

We found some showers at the campground and posed for a

picture in front of our 4Runner with his/her bikes on top!

It was a great day!

As my mom stayed home and recovered from surgery,

A while ago Ben and I went to Nate and Brooke's house for dinner.

Well, Hudson wanted Uncle Ben and Aunt Emmy to

come and play with him in his room.

He wanted us to sit on both sides of him as he picked out

different books for us to read.

He didn't want us to go back into the living room, just wanted

us to stay and hang out with him.

We had such a great time!

So about a month ago I took Ben away for his 30th birthday!

I didn't tell him anything, I just told him he had to take 2 days off of school!

Finally before we left, I told him we were driving somewhere.

We drove 3 hours west to Austin, TX!

At a pit stop at a Starbucks, we ran into some suprise visitors!

More than a month ago, we were so lucky to be able to spend the

evening with Craig!

He had a week long training in Dallas, got done early, changed his

plane ticket to fly out of Houston!

After Craig drove 4-5 hours...we met up with him!

We went out for some great Mexican food and watched a movie!

He flew out early the next morning!

It was a crazy fast visit, but it was so great to be able to see him!

Well, it's been awhile since my last post...been busy and getting a new computer and figuring this blogging out on the new computer has been a challenge as well!

It was so great to have him see where we live!

While we were in Ohio spending time with Ben's family,

we spent a lot of time at Ben's grandpa's farm.

Ben's grandfather had sold his farm and we had the privalege to

help him tie up the loose ends!

Although I didn't grow up on the farm, I heard many stories; and I

could definatly see how it was a great place to grow up and a great place

to make memories!

We had an excellent trip up north this summer!

Time went too fast, and we had a wonderful time catching up

In June, Ben and I found out the Tigers were in town!

So on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, we went to go cheer them on!

It was a great game! Tigers won in the 9th!

It was weird cheering for the "away team" but we

are loyal, and we did it anyways despite the glares from the Astro fans!

After the game...we walked around near the stadium!

They had a "Dock Dog" competition! It was so cool to watch!

It was kind of like long jumping for dogs...but in the water!

Sorry it's been awhile since the last post!

We've been busy doing many things!

One coolish Texas evening we decided it was a nice night for a drink outside!

Only problem was that we didn't have anywhere to sit!

So we took a sporatic trip to buy some outdoor seating!

Summertime awards me with a little more time off than usual. Since I am genetically incapable of being bored I've found a few projects to work on with the help of my better half. Emily is great at giving ideas and since she's hard at work everyday, it makes me feel a little better knowing that I did something while she was gone too.

Two nights ago, we had a happy dog.
Yesterday we had a happy dog.

This morning I woke up and had a happy dog, we sat outside and enjoyed the birds
and cooler morning weather together, then we came inside and I found what my happy
dog had been doing throughout the night.

My happy dog, spent the night chewing on our nice Pottery Barn coffee table. Bless our happy dog's little heart. What a sweet puppy.

I don't have a happy dog anymore...neither does Emily.

Work & Play

So....this is what we've been up to lately!

I have been working about 55 hours a week!

And Ben has just finished up school!

This is me and some of my co-workers going out after a 12 hour day!

We've been able to get some biking in....although,

too many people I know are getting broken shoulders from falling off of

their bikes, so it makes me not want to go as much!!

Two nights a week I have been playing beach volleyball!

It has been so much fun! So different from indoor volleyball!

Last weekend, Ben and I went to our favorite restaurant in Galveson called the Mosquito Cafe!

We took our dog Chai along to help socialize her a little bit!

After an amazing breakfast/lunch, we drove to the beach and

took her for a little walk. She was pretty freaked out most of the time!

Saturday morning, I babysat my nephew Hudson!

We had a great time together!

He found my broom and started to sweep the floors;

so I kicked my feet up and told him where to go!

What a trooper!

So that's why people have kids!

This is what we opened up our front door to yesterday

evening! I heard we had 5 inches of rain an hour! For 3 hours!

I'm thinking maybe flood insurance is on the to do list for this week!

Texas Blue Bonnets

When I came to visit my brother and sister-in-law about 4 years ago...my

sister-in-law Brooke introduced me to a Texas tradition.

Every spring, Blue Bonnets grow wild on the side of highways, fields, ect...

The tradition is to pull off the side of the highway and get your picture/family picture

taken in the field of these beautiful flowers!

Well, this weekend, Ben and I did some mountain biking Friday and Saturday,

and on our trip home on Saturday, we saw many people stopped on the side

of the road taking pictures in these huge fields full of blue bonnets!

So we gave into the Texas tradition for the first time!

After we came back from Austin, my mom had flown into town!

We were able to have her over to our home for the first time!

We had dinner and a great time!

What's going on...

Not too much new going on down here in Texas!

Just thought I'd share a couple of updates!

Ben and I had a date night last night...went out to dinner in Houston!
Ben's friend (and mine too) Foley has been staying with us for the past
4 weeks. Job hunting, pig hunting, and riding his bike!
It's been fun having him around!
So we've had a "You, Me, and Dupree" situation...minus the sock :)
But it's been fun to have a visitor!

This was my first real ride...I had a lot of fun!

We rented Jeep Wranglers and drove them to some Mayan Ruins.

Our guide told us some cool stuff and took us in the caves.

In a cave was a mineral pool where the Mayans would go for healing.

Grand Cayman Island and Formal night #2~

Our second trip off of the boat was to Grand Cayman Island.

We were supposed to go snorkeling with the stingrays and feed them...

but I (Emily) wasn't feeling too great...so we spent most of the day back on the boat.

I was really bummed! The water was so clear!

But after a good 3 hour nap... I felt much better!

For our first "excursion" we went on a zipline tour in the jungle of Jamaica!

It was a lot of fun!

There were 7 ziplines total! Some long and some short!

The last one was over 1,000 feet long!

It was awesome!

Cracked Humerous!

I thought I would just let everyone see how wonderful

my husband is...inside and out!

Truth of the matter is...my guy had a "sweet wipe-out" on his bike in which

he hyper-extended his shoulder.

After a trip to the ER to get it xrayed and a visit to the orthopedic

specialist, many Ibuprofen and Vicoden... it was finally diagnosed!

The head of his humerous bone has a crack on it!

After 4 weeks in a sling...he'll get it xrayed again!

Any ideas to help keep him entertained (ie...his mind off of biking)?

We've done lots of shopping and went to a museum; we'll be on a boat for a week,

but I still have 2 weeks to keep him entertained!

I am open to suggestions!!

A new bike!!

So, I finally was talked into getting a mountain bike!

We bought it today, along with the appropriate saftey gear...

and we went out on the trail tonight with our friends Rick & Melissa!

I think I did okay...but I have a lot to learn... and I had a ton of fun!

I can't wait to get back out there!

Wings Over Houston Air Show!

Last week Sunday, Ben and I went to the Wings Over Houston air show!

It was so great! I mean....who doesn't like an air show?

I took some sweet video too...but I've spent the past 2 days trying to post them and I have officially given up! The USAF Thunderbirds were there and put on a great show! It is so incredible to watch them fly!

Driving North to Crockett, Texas where we tried to get away from the storm (I really wanted to stay to watch the festivities from my roof with my shotgun and a canoe, but my vote got vetoed)

Driving south back to Houston. Notice any difference in the weather? We were greeted in Houston with flash flooding. Luckily the ground was completely saturated by this point from the 15 inches of rain dropped by Ike.

Sorry this pic is a little blurry. Beware all northerners (or Yankees) as we're called down here). There are about to be a million cars from the south for sale. They may not have rust but at one point most of them were flooded. This is a car dealership along the I-45 freeway. I guess if the food is too spicy at this Mexican Kitchen you can always go for a quick dip in the pool in the parking lot to cool off! Good luck figuring out what restaraunt it is, the sign is probably in Lousiana somewhere.
My back yard, it looks a little bigger without the fence to block your view. The trees although still standing (nice) were pushed about 2 inches in the ground towards the house.

Tropical Storm Edouard

Well, I know this is a bit late, but here are some pictures of me and my coworkers

sleeping overnight for Tropical Storm Edouard.

For those of you who do not live in TX, the hospitals go on lock down,

and you have to choose to either "ride-out" the storm or "recover" the storm!

So this is what it looked like when my awesome co-workers and I each get handed

and army cot and get locked in the hospital until they say we can leave.

Date Night!

Friday night we had date night!

It was so much fun! With all of mad chaos for the past

couple of weeks, it was nice to have a normal Friday night!

We went out to dinner in Kemah, Texas! (Thanks Craig & Michelle).

Walked around afterwards, got some candy, rode the ferris wheel, and

listened to some live music!

The shortest ferris wheel ride in the world. About 3 times around then it was done!
